- Poynter Institute: The entire site of the Poynter Institute is a huge window into the world of journalism for any PR pro who pokes their head in. It's chock-full of how-to information for journalists, but that info is easily adapted to our profession. Year after year, I hear that the #1 thing PR people want to do is to "think like a journalist." This site is a great way to learn how.
- Romenesko: Years ago, a guy in Chicago named Jim Romenesko started compiling a daily email report about the media, culled from online sources. To keep it going, he hooked up with Poynter, and now it is published by Poynter as a web page and daily email.
- Journalists Speak Out: This is a periodic email from Bulldog Reporter in which they include an in-depth interview with a journalist explaining clearly and bluntly how to work with the media. You've got to jump through a hoop or two to get your subscription started and you'll have to wade through the 'house ads' in the newsletter to find the content, but it's worth it. Go to www.bulldogreporter.com to sign up.
- Mediabistro: An online community of journalists with lots more news-you-can-use for journalists, but not quite as academic as Poynter. They've got a daily media news feed as well.

Must Reads About the Media
I wanted to pass along to you some of my favorite information sources for keeping up on the media. They're all free and available, of course, online.

These are good resources that I use, too. Another free way to keep up with the media is to set up Google Alerts. When news breaks about your topic of interest, or even stories by journalists you try to keep an eye on your Google alert lets you know.
